China advises US-North Korea to initiate denuclearisation talks

South Korean President Moon Jae-in quickly took Kim up on the offer; not only did North Korea send athletes to the games, but the two sides agreed to march together in the Opening Ceremony under a unified Korean flag.

Wang also claimed that China's efforts have led to a recent inter-Korean thaw, praising a proposal aimed at easing security tensions between the two Koreas that he himself had presented exactly one year ago.

The South Korean delegation also said they would convey an "additional" undisclosed message from the North Korean regime to Washington.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said all relevant sides and particularly the U.S. and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPKK) should conduct a dialogue based on a "dual-track approach" to promote denuclearisation and peace mechanisms.

But foreign ministry officials have cautioned it is too early to assume the talks will bring a lasting breakthrough on the central issue - nuclear weapons. "China will take necessary measures in the event of a trade war".

Trading Michael Bennett makes pass rush an even bigger need for Seahawks
He only missed two games a year ago and made a sixth Pro Bowl appearance, but he's found himself in trade rumors, as well. The defensive end had 8.5 sacks last season, and would have given the Patriots a boost at pass rusher.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday urged the United States and North Korea to hold bilateral talks as soon as possible to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, while pledging that Beijing will work together with other countries for that goal. It will be just the third time in history that the countries' leaders have met.

The US, which only this week increased its sanctions on Pyongyang over the death of Mr Kim's brother Kim jong-nam, has said it is open to talking to North Korea, but only if it commits to denuclearisation.

Wang ended his remarks with a warning: while the light is visible at the end of the tunnel, the road ahead will not be smooth.

"Now is a crucial moment for testing the sincerity of the parties", who must show political courage to restart dialogue for the peaceful settlement of nuclear issue, Wang said.

Those visits and meetings that "go a long way toward deepening the world's understanding of China, enhancing China's profile and influence, and facilitating the solution of many global problems", he said.
