  • Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Apologizes For Data Scandal With Full-Page Newspaper Ads But Admits Something Scary

Scrutiny by the US Federal Trade Commission, which generally confirms the existence of an investigation only in cases of significant public interest, adds to pressure by lawmakers in the United States and Europe for Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg to explain how his company handles user data. Its CEO, Alexander Nix, said in undercover footage that the company was responsible for much of the Trump campaign's activity.

There have been allegations that the information was used to help Donald Trump win the 2016 U.S. election.

"The FTC takes very seriously recent press reports raising substantial concerns about the privacy practices of Facebook", said Tom Pahl, the FTC's acting director for its consumer protection bureau, in a statement Monday.

The company's chairman made the admission as Facebook claimed it is now investigating "every single app that had access to large amounts of data" belonging to its users.

He said the user term and conditions of Facebook are wide open. Users are reporting that call and SMS metadata has been found among their personal data; something that many did not expect to find. The rules, approved two years ago, also make it easier for consumers to give and withdraw consent for the use of their data and apply to any company that uses the data of European Union residents, no matter where it is based.

Facebook said the information was uploaded to secure servers and comes only from Android users who opt-in to allow it.

"Facebook has been complacent about its data security, to the point of irresponsibility".

Speaking of Crayon, it is the first third-party stylus for the iPad that features the same technology as the Apple Pencil. Apple today announced a cheaper, Logitech-made stylus for its iPad family of devices called Crayon.

"We never sell this data, and this feature does not collect the content of your text messages or calls". The social media network has been accused of undermining the news industry and fueling America's partisan echo chamber. The discovery was made by Dylan McKay when he downloaded his own Facebook data and discovered his entire call history was there.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Monday requested Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testify at a April 10 hearing on consumer data privacy - the third congressional committee, along with the Senate and House commerce committees, to do so.

They say the data is used "to improve people's experience across Facebook" by helping to connect with others.

Zuckerberg said this was a "breach of trust" and that Facebook is taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Through this platform, a Cambridge University researcher named Aleksandr Kogan in 2013 created a personality quiz app which was installed by 300,000 people, collecting the data of those users as well as their friends. Nix has since been suspended from his position at the analytics company.

Then in 2014, Facebook changed the app-sharing platform to significantly limit the data apps could access, in order to prevent abuse.
