Along with a newer low-priced iPad and other education-focused platforms, Apple teamed up with Logitech to introduce two new accessories for its tablet lineup at its March 27 education event in Chicago.
Logitech promises compatibility with a wide range of apps, including Apple's own Pages, Numbers and Keynotes, as well as the Microsoft Office suite. The stylus charges using a Lightning charger and lasts 8 hours before needing recharged, but take note: it doesn't support pressure. This includes an affordable Apple Pencil alternative and a rugged case with keyboard.
Speaking of Crayon, it is the first third-party stylus for the iPad that features the same technology as the Apple Pencil.
Apple today announced a cheaper, Logitech-made stylus for its iPad family of devices called Crayon. If the student is an artist, it is advisable to go with the more expensive Pencil.
Designed with input from educators, administrators and IT specialists, the updated Rugged Combo 2 case and keyboard combo is created to take on daily wear and tear inside K-12 classrooms. It also features a kickstand with four use modes and angles, as well as a built-in pencil holder specifically made for the Logitech Crayon or Apple Pencil. The case can protect the tablet from drops up to 4ft in height, the keys are pry-resistant to prevent kids from easily destroying them, and the keyboard is detachable.
Alongside the stylus, Apple also announced a new rugged Logitech iPad case and keyboard combo.
The new iPad for education fits perfectly with the Logitech Rugged Combo 2. They're also silent, so tapping away on an iPad won't disturb other nearby students. Both will be available directly from Apple around summer time. Logitech Crayon will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and the Rugged Combo 2 will be available for a suggested retail price of $99.99. It is not clear if home consumers outside of education will be able to buy them.
