  • The ISA’s five solar programs

President Ram Nath Kovind, along with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, will host the Summit, which will focus on various aspects of promoting solar energy in ISA member countries, including credit mechanisms, crowd funding and sharing of technology breakthroughs. The country has secured a prominent place in the global solar energy industry through developing world-class solar energy projects, including the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Complex in Dubai, which is the world's largest Concentrated Solar Power project in the world, using the Independent Power Producer model and generating 5000 megawatts when completed in 2030.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for concessional financing and less-risky funds for solar projects to raise the share of solar power in the energy basket, provide cheaper electricity and cut carbon emissions. Modi said that India would produce 175 GW of electricity from renewable sources by 2022, and as much as 100 GW from solar energy.

He pointed out that the alliance aims to address the main challenges related to solar energy and will expand its use among the member states in accordance with their needs.

Stating that a green future will depend on "what we can all do together", Modi said in India work had started on the world's largest new energy initiative. "Solar energy is used not only for energy production, but also for transport, clean cooking, solar pumps in farms", he said.

"Driven by remarkable cost declines, innovative policies and new business models, solar energy has emerged as the fastest growing renewable energy worldwide".

The Solar Mamas in Tanzania are one example of India's strategy to fight climate change by promoting alternative sources of energy and how India's know-how in solar energy can benefit fellow members of the ISA. "Consultancy support should be developed for bankable solar projects in developing nations".

The South Korean delegation also said they would convey an "additional" undisclosed message from the North Korean regime to Washington .

Sopoaga and Salwai arrived here earlier in the day to take part in the founding conference of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

A major strategy to achieving these targets in Ghana, the President told the gathering, is to build the relevant domestic capacity in the manufacture and assembling of solar energy systems and accessories within Ghana.

Modi said 13 solar projects by India across the world worth $143 million have been completed or are in the process of being executed.

Expressing his vast happiness and lauding the efforts of Solar Mamas, he said, "Our solar mamas did not wait for us".

Till Thursday, 60 countries had signed the framework agreement of the ISA and 30 submitted the instruments of ratification. India had also considered a 70% safeguard duty on solar panel and cells imports from China, which fortunately did not go through. They did not wait and stop because some countries (US and others) just made a decision to leave the floor and leave the Paris Agreement.
