The BJP government in the state assumed charge after ending 25-year rule of the Left Front. He said, "As Prime Minister, I have visited northeast states many times, India stands with you and understands the concerns of the northeast".

Biplab Deb, long-time Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) volunteer and Tripura BJP president, took oath as the chief minister of the northeastern state on Friday at a grand ceremony which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, senior leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and other party leaders.

He even had a conversation with former Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar.

Tripura's CM Biplab Kumar Deb said on the question of corruption in the previous government's investigation that our government will not spare anyone who does any corruption. Deodhar, who is considered to be the brainchild behind BJP's success in the state, further targeted the Left leaders accusing them of being political murders.

Jishnu Deb Burman also took oath as deputy chief minister of Tripura.

The CPI-M party Secretary Bijan Dhar alleged soon after the departure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Tripura attending swearing-in ceremony yesterday, several party offices were burnt down and CPI-M leaders and workers were attacked allegedly by BJP supporters last night in Bishalgarh, Jirania and Amarpur.

"History has been scripted by the brothers and sisters of Tripura", the PM said while congratulating the electorate.

"BJP leadership in the 1990s used to be so anxious about the party unit in Tripura that we used to wonder if the party would ever be able to become a cohesive unit in the state".

The BJP had bagged 35 seats and the IPFT eight of the 59 seats that went to polls.

The BJP-IPFT alliance swept the poll with 43 seats as opposed to Left's 16 with one seat yet to be polled.
