A United States woman has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for shooting dead her boyfriend in a botched stunt they hoped would go viral on YouTube.

Monalisa Perez, 20, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter for the fatal shooting of boyfriend Pedro Ruiz at their Minnesota home in June a year ago. Pedro dared her to fire a handgun from a foot away as he held a book to his chest that he thought would stop the bullet.

Monalisa Perez has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 180 days in jail for killing her late boyfriend Pedro Ruiz. As part of the plea agreement, she was sentenced on Wednesday to 180 days in jail and a lifetime ban on possessing a firearm, the Star Tribune reported.

A few hours before the ill-fated video, Perez had written on social media that the stunt was "one of the most unsafe videos ever" and was Mr Ruiz's idea, not hers.

Norman County Attorney James Brue said: "This foolish stunt was dreamed up, planned and executed by Pedro Ruiz, and the defendant wrongfully and tragically relied on his assurances that the stunt was safe". The shooting on June 26, 2017 was part of aspiring YouTube star Pedro Ruiz's efforts to build an online following by performing unsafe stunts, according to police and media reports.

Hours before the shooting, Perez spelled out her concern on Twitter.

Sharing the basketball key to Kentucky Wildcats' late-season success
Kentucky benefited greatly from coach John Calipari when they began the year ice cold and steadily improved as the season wore on. Kevin Knox scored eight of his game-high 25 points and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tallied nine of his 19 in the final three minutes.

Perez and Ruiz's channel featured many videos of them pranking each other, doing viral YouTube challenges and life as being teenager/young parents.

Perez accidentally shot Ruiz when making a YouTube video in late June 2017.

Perez tweeted that it was her boyfriend's idea before they attempted the stunt.

A few hours before the incident, Perez also tweeted that they were about to do their most unsafe stunt ever, adding that it was Ruiz's idea. In one such video taken at a fair, Ruiz talks excitedly about someday reaching 300,000 followers.

She said the man's response was, "We want more viewers". The judge said he would say next week whether it would be made publicly available. A trial may have resulted in ten years in prison with a $20,000 fine.

Family and friends said at the time that Ruiz had been talking about performing the stunt for some time.
