Three weightlifters and two boxers have not been seen since Tuesday, while another three have since gone missing, including boxer Christelle Ndiang, who disappeared after losing her bout to Australian Skye Nicholson on Tuesday.

"The Cameroon Commonwealth team is sad to announce that eight athletes are missing from their respective rooms in the Games village, " Team's Chef de mission Victor Agbor Nso said in a statement in Sydney.

The eight athletes from the Camerons have disappeared in Australia without a trace, sparking a manhunt by the Australian Border Force.

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg said it was disappointing that some of the athletes did not compete as scheduled. "The pious hope is that they come back to the village and travel home with the others", he said.

Mr Nso said the team's officials and remaining athletes, including basketball players and two weightlifters, have already left Australia.

"I don't want to be blase".

"We would appreciate them sticking within the law, enjoying themselves, but sticking within the law", organising committee boss Peter Beattie told reporters.

The Australian police and security services were immediately alerted about their disappearance as the search intensifies to track them down. If there is a breach then Peter Dutton and his department will deal with it.
