Two of the Cowichan Valley's athletes in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia have finished just shy of the medal podium.

The three weightlifters and two boxers were last seen at different times on Monday and Tuesday, he said.

Cameroon's flagbearer Essiane Clotilde leads the delegation during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, on April 4, 2018 on Australia's Gold Coast.

Weightlifter Olivier Matam and boxers Ndzie Tchoyi and Simplice Fotsala have not been located since they failed to compete on Tuesday, and two other athletes have also disappeared. Athlete visas for the Commonwealth Games expire on May 15, Grevemberg said.

Continuing his country's dominance at Belmont, the shooting venue located in outer Brisbane, Anish Bhanwala, the youngest member of his country's games team, earned India its sixth shooting gold.

Cameroon say eight of their 42-strong Commonwealth Games team are missing, with one boxer's failure to appear at an event gifting his Canadian rival a medal.

In 2012, seven athletes from Cameroon were reported missing from the London Olympic Games.

In the final event of the night, the three-meter synchro springboard, England's Jack Laugher won his third gold of the games, combining with Chris Mears for a dominating victory over divers from Canada and Australia.

Commonwealth Games Federation CEO David Grevemberg confirmed in a statement that Australian authorities are now searching for "one Rwandan and two Ugandan accredited delegates not present in the village".

"This happens at every games, it's no surprise. if there is a breach (of visa) Peter Dutton and his team will deal with it", Beattie said.

Meanwhile, the Australian government has warned athletes against overstaying their visas. "Nobody knows the direction they have gone", Cameroon team spokesman Simon Lyonga told CNN affiliate Seven News.

"As National's new spokesperson for Sport and Recreation, it is great to support our athletes as they compete on the world stage and also to learn from other countries about policies that may be beneficial to New Zealand athletes".

They are still within their visas, they have the right to travel freely.

The Australian Border Force has been alerted to the missing athletes.

Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie urged the athletes to "stay within the law" and not stay in Australia beyond the expiry of their visas.

Cameroon's remaining two weightlifters, along with the country's basketball team, were already heading home, the team added.
