The sources said that multi-year plans for projects are always shifting, but it may be too much of a stretch to think that the PlayStation 5 will arrive this year. The sources from SemiAccurate claims that the Sony PlayStation 5 might launch in May this year. They mentioned that the release date could be moved to a later date and Sony is apparently just trying to find the right moment to release its new hardware for maximum profit and exposure.

Previous PlayStation 5 rumors have pegged the console's release date to as early as 2019 and as late as 2021, but Sony has so far not revealed any official information regarding the next PlayStation console. Another close source to Sony also noted that if the PS5 was due out this year, it would already be in mass production, which would come as a shock to those now working on the PS4's roster for 2018. Some of those insiders - who are not identified by name - state that they have firsthand knowledge of Sony's console plans and don't believe that the PlayStation 5 will be released in 2018 or 2019. If the PS5 follows the same time frame that would put a release in 2020. He has deduced that even though Sony has said nothing about the console, developers usually have some idea about imminent launches. If any dev-kits are in the wild, then they're really early ones; likely just desktop PC's with targeted specs. As reported by GameSpot, game developers have also not yet received any "devkits" for them to start working on titles for the new gaming console.

It's been almost five years since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched. The Pro launched in November of 2016, making it less than two years old.

Good Friday Agreement can still 'transform society and life', say Primates
While some division remains in Northern Ireland - politicians and faith leaders have worked tirelessly to ensure peace reigns. Despite this, the future of Stormont is again hanging in the balance after it collapsed over a year ago.

This would have the benefit of full (backward and forward) compatibility, though as a downside the Xbox One X's CPU could prove to be a bottleneck for next-generation games.

Also in the report is word that the PS5 will play games that do not run on PS4, so this sounds like it could be a big step up.

If Sony has any hardware announcements to make or to tease, that could happen during E3 2018 in June.
