"The two leaders agreed to maintain close contact relative to the current situation", the White house said, without going into details.

In his remarks in Ankara, Erdoğan criticized both the US and Russian Federation for their sstance in Syria.

The White Helmets organization in Eastern Ghouta alleged that the Syrian regime forces carried out a chemical attack in Douma district, killing dozens of people.

Mr Erdogan said he would speak to Russian despot Vladimir Putin later today about the crisis.

While Turkey is cooperating with both Russian Federation and Iran to wind down some of the violence in Syria, Ankara has long demanded that President Bashar al-Assad must go and has backed rebels against him.

And in recent months, Turkey has worked closely with Russian Federation despite their differences.

Danny Drinkwater 'to consider Chelsea future'
Chelsea have won their last four league games against Southampton - they've never won five in a row against them. I don't think the situation that Chelsea are in is Conte's fault - you must give him that season'.

The Turkish defense minister's stark warning comes on the heels of several early morning tweets by Trump that intensified concerns that the U.S.is preparing to launch a military attack on Syria, risking a direct confrontation with Russian forces stationed in the country. The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution on February, 24, calling for a month-long ceasefire in Syria.

"If an attack occurs against the forces [in Syria] backed by Russian Federation or there is an attack by the USA -supported forces, Russian Federation won't be able to stay away, otherwise it will lose its influence".

He added that the use of Turkey's air bases during the potential strike against the regime will be discussed with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who will arrive in Ankara on an official visit Monday.

Several countries led by the US, including France and the United Kingdom, are weighing military strikes in response to the Douma chemical attack. On March 18, Turkish-backed troops liberated Afrin town center, which had been a major hideout for the YPG/PKK since 2012.

Erdoğan said that the number of "neutralized" PKK terrorists in northern Iraq reached 337.
