A surfer was killed by a shark at Gracetown in 2013.
The shark bit him on the leg, and he was left with a tooth embedded in his thigh.
He underwent surgery this afternoon and is in a stable condition.
It is believed Mr Longrass did not heed the warnings, and returned to the water.
According to one witness, photographer Peter Jovic, the man was separated from his board during the attack but managed to body surf back to shore.
"After discussing with local authorities, the water safety team and surfers, the WSL commissioner's office has chose to resume competition for the Margaret River Pro at Main Break at 10.40am, following a one-hour hold prompted by reports of a shark incident at Gracetown - approximately 15km away from the event site", a spokeswoman said.
Alejandro Travaglini was bitten on the leg, and the quick-thinking actions of his mates tying a tourniquet around his leg saved his life.
The WSL later said the competition, which forms part of the WSL's World Championship Tour and features top ranked surfers, was back up and running.
Upon hearing news of the attack, the World Surf League's Margaret River Pro 2018 was suspended until local authorities were able to ensure the safety of everyone at the competition.

The shark attack victim was flown to hospital after being given first aid by friends who stemmed the blood flow using a leg rope.
The contest was initially put on hold with organisers saying the "safety of our surfers and staff is a top priority".
The shark from the clip was probably small black tip reef shark less than two meters long, which has never reported in attacks on humans in Thailand, said Thon Thamrongnawasawat, deputy dean of Kasersart University's Faculty of Fisheries.
"We have actioned our well-established safety protocols and are gathering all the latest information to determine next steps", a statement read.
"We will continue to liaise with all involved, most importantly the surfers".
"Today's competition has already been called off and all surfers have been advised not to surf in the area".
The whale carcass was unable to be moved from the beach until Tuesday due to poor weather conditions.
North Point, Big Rock and Lefthanders beaches were closed following the attacks.
