Fox renews 'Lethal Weapon,' replaces star with Seann William Scott

The network has picked up the police action drama series for a third season without Clayne Crawford, who played Martin Riggs.

With Crawford having been let go, his role will be taken over by American Pie's Sean William Scott, who will be playing an entirely new character, likely as Riggs' brother to keep the Murtagh-Riggs dynamic alive.

'Seann is a fantastic addition to this already awesome cast, ' Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told The Hollywood Reporter. "'Lethal Weapon' is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen".

Sources tell THR that Warners opted to fire Crawford after he was disciplined each time for his poor behavior. Producers were left to scramble to find a new actor to replace Crawford in the two-hander, with multiple stars passing on offers to join the Fox show until Scott engaged. According to Deadline, "complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment" were made by several members of the cast and crew. Warners on Sunday confirmed Crawford will not return to the drama with a statement: "Warner Bros". The role will be his first TV series regular roles after the American Pie franchise and numerous other features.
