  • Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself in to Police to Face Sex Crime Charge in NYC

Revelations in The New York Times and The New Yorker in the fall spurred official inquiries in New York, Los Angeles and London.

More than 75 women have accused Weinstein of wrongdoing. He sought treatment for sex addiction at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, the New York Times reported.

Asia Argento has also had her say, as she shared a video of the news breaking along with the caption: 'This is the only movie Harvey Weinstein will be remembered for #perpwalk'. If found guilty, he could receive a sentence of between 5 and 25 years in prison.

Weinstein has said repeatedly through his lawyers that he did not have nonconsensual sex with anyone.

He denies the charges against him, and his high-powered lawyer has already said he will plead not guilty.

Actress Rose McGowan, among the first to accuse Weinstein of sexual assault, said seeing images of him in handcuffs was surreal. The criminal complaint against Weinstein, which charges him with one count of rape in the first degree, one count of rape in the third degree, and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree, gives several graphic details of what allegedly happened.

Former "Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra, who has said she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein in the 1990s, tweeted "Can't Wait!" followed by "Anyone know where I can get front row seats?"

Details of those making the accusations have not yet been officially released, but former actress Lucia Evans, who said Mr Weinstein forced her into oral sex in 2004, is thought to be one of the women whose cases triggered the charges.

The cycle of violence in Gaza needs to end, said Mladenov. Tuesday, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is fighting back. There is no justification for the killing.

Then came the "perp walk" - Weinstein was marched past the assembled press with hands in cuffs behind his back, shuttled without ceremony straight to the nearby Manhattan Criminal Court.

Weinstein appeared to be smiling as he entered and left the police precinct.

McGowan also appeared on Megyn Kelly Today on Friday morning. Weinstein was taken into custody with an expected $2 million bond.

Judge Kevin McGrath released Weinstein on $1m bail, with constant electronic monitoring and a ban on traveling beyond NY and the neighbouring state of CT.

He has until May 30 to decide whether to speak before a grand jury.

It was unclear whether NY prosecutors would seek to have other Weinstein accusers testify against him.

Media surrounded the 66-year-old Weinstein outside the courthouse Friday. "Harvey Weinstein shattered the lives of an untold number of women". When another asked him, "What can you say?"

Bennett Gershman, a professor at New York's Pace Law School, said the task for Brafman was "monumental, maybe even impossible" given the depth of public antipathy toward Weinstein. The initial investigations into Weinstein have created massive ripple effects in the film industry and many other industries, and across the world. He had racked up Oscars for a string of films that helped define independent cinema in the 1990s, including "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction". Caty Weaver was the editor.
