An armed group has stormed the head office of Libya's election commission, killing at least 12 people including employees.
The BBC reports Wednesday's attack was the deadliest the country has seen in years.
Fifteen people were killed in a suicide attack on Libya's High National Elections Commission (HNEC) yesterday.
Although it is not yet clear who carried out the attack, the target appears to crystallise a political message on the future of the country and attempts to move forward.
Al Jazeera's Mahmoud Abdelwahed, reporting from Tripoli, quoted the city's director for security as saying two suicide bombers detonated their explosives as security forces confronted them.
Voters have been registering for elections expected before the end of the year.
Images shared on social media showed pillars of thick smoke rising from the site.
