"The Fake News is working overtime", the president wrote in the first tweet he posted on Wednesday. Depends on how Trump defines fake news, but by his own estimate, "91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake)", which presumably means only Fox News would be credentialed.

"Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt?" he asked and added, "Take away credentials?"

Taking away press credentials, however, would be unprecedented and would drastically restrict correspondents' access to the White House grounds and press briefings, among other things.

Offering that "it is not possible for (his) surrogates to stand at (a) podium with flawless accuracy", the president tweeted that "maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy".

"A free press must be able to report on the good, the bad, the momentous and the mundane, without fear or favor", she continued.

According to Trump, anything positive that is said about him is real, but everything negative is fake. He also appeared to clarify for the first time that when he refers to "fake news", he is referring to news that is negative about him or his administration.

The Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog group, tracked the evening newscasts on ABC, CBS and NBC for the first four months of this year and found more than 1,600 "explicitly positive and negative" statements about the president.

While Trump's tweet teased the idea, the association's president explained the severe reflection on the president if the idea were to come to fruition.

The tweet was standard fare for Trump in some respects.
