Trump Lawyer Attended DOJ Meeting On Confidential FBI Informant

  • Trump ‘Criminal Deep State’ got caught in ‘major spy scandal

WASHINGTON ― Top congressional lawmakers and a White House attorney met with Justice Department officials on Thursday to discuss classified information about an FBI informant involved in the investigation into Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election.

"Look how things have turned around on the Criminal Deep State", Trump tweeted today.

In an interview with Reuters, Comey also said he would be leery of the Federal Bureau of Investigation trying to track propaganda in the United States, let alone take action against it, while acknowledging that it was a major problem for the US political system. At the last minute, Rep. Adam B. Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was also included in the first meeting. "They're the same briefing", he said.

The president has suggested otherwise in a storm of tweets, including one on Thursday proclaiming that "SPYGATE could be one of the biggest scandals in history!" Democrats say that the entire episode - including the president's involvement - is the latest gambit by Nunes and Trump to undermine the special counsel, Robert Mueller and gain information about his inquiry.

The original meeting was scheduled for just Nunes and Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, but the Justice Department relented and allowed additional lawmakers to come after Democrats strongly objected.

This week, Trump said he will demand the Justice Department investigate whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation infiltrated and/or surveilled his campaign personnel when he was running for election in 2016.

The assumption that the FBI/DOJ infiltration, if in fact it happened, was for political purposes sounds like yet another Trump paranoia created to distract attention from the Mueller investigation. "They go after Phony Collusion with Russian Federation, a made up Scam, and end up getting caught in a major SPY scandal the likes of which this country may never have seen before!", he wrote on Twitter. The White House gave no evidence to support Trump's claim that President Barack Obama's administration was trying to spy on his 2016 campaign for political reasons.

No Democrats have been invited to tomorrow's meetings, though several have said a Dem should attend.

In the meantime, Trump and closely aligned Republicans in Congress have flipped the tables on the politically damaging Russian Federation probe by calling for a new investigation - this time into whether the FBI spied on his presidential campaign in its own bid to sway the 2016 election. Nunes has demanded information on an FBI source in the Russian Federation investigation.

We are told that Mr. Trump can not be allowed to have any say over the Justice Department's actions, since this might make him privy to sensitive details about an investigation into himself.

It remained unclear what, if any, spying was done.

He's tweeted: "How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?"

Nunes has been quiet about what exactly he hopes to learn about the informant, saying only that his request is part of an oversight investigation into potential political bias and abuse of power within the Justice Department as it relates to the Russian Federation investigation.

Sanders said no White House staffers - including Kelly - will be present at Thursday's meeting. "That leaves them with writing a report", said the former New York City mayor, who recently took over representing Trump in the special counsel probe.
