  • The meeting would be the first time Mr Kim has hosted a fellow head of state

The historic meeting will be held at the Capella Hotel, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted. "We said we're not going to have a summit under those circumstances".

She added that Trump is getting daily briefings on North Korea in the runup to the landmark meeting.

The official also said the South is working closely with the US on negotiations with the North, but declined to comment on the contents of a letter that the North's leader sent to Trump. He warned North Korea that only when they agree to complete denuclearization can they expect economic sanctions to lift.

The White House said Monday that the meeting is tentatively scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) on June 12 in Singapore.

Under successive members of the Kim family, around whom a nationwide cult of personality is built, North Korea has regularly shown a willingness to engage in bellicose rhetoric, especially in response to insults of its leader.

The Serbian, who is not committed to any event before The Championships, commented: 'I don't know if I'm going to play on grass . The matches between David Goffin and Gael Monfils , and Lucas Pouille and Karen Khachanov , were suspended due to poor weather.

The oppressive regime is believed to have developed a miniaturized nuclear device that could be placed on a missile that could strike the United States.

North Korea has replaced its three most senior military officials with less hawkish appointees, leading analysts to speculate that Kim Jong-un is attempting to sideline hardline factions within the regime.

Trump said he didn't want to use the term "maximum pressure" any more, because the two sides were "getting along". "I think that's something people should be very aware of".

North Korean officials are "sensitive to being dictated to", one source close to the talks said, and the Hagin-led team has taken pains to present ideas for the summit in a collaborative way. "It's not - I never said it goes in one meeting. But the relationships are building, and that's a very positive thing".

The summit is due to be held following a rapid detente between Pyongyang and Washington - as well as South Korea - in a turn-around from a dramatic escalation of tensions a year ago, when the North ratcheted up its weapons programme.
