  • The al Aqsa compound is one of the most fractious issues in the Israel Palestinian conflict

A ship on a humanitarian mission to Palestine carrying 22 activists from around the world is believed to have been seized by Israel when the ship was approaching Gaza.

Freedom Flotilla was intercepted by the Israeli navy on Sunday afternoon approximately 70 from the Gaza Strip shore. From 2008 through 2016, global activists have sailed 31 ships and boats to challenge the Israeli naval blockade.

The Gaza health ministry said about 264 Palestinians sustained injuries Friday, 90 by live fire.

The flotilla boat also carried a quantity of urgently needed medical supplies to be gifted to Gaza's over-stretched health services, and the boat itself was intended as a gift to Gaza's fishers.

Israel's Navy intercepted a ship in the latest Gaza Freedom Flotilla attempting to breach Israel's naval blockade of Gaza.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said that as such the blockade of Gaza should come to an end and the freedom of movement for all Palestinians must be restored.

On May 31, 2010, Israeli commandos killed nine Turkish activists in the Mavi Marmara boat convoy in global waters. It said the incident passed "without exceptional events" and that the ship is being taken to an Israeli port.

Israel maintains its blockade to keep material it believes could be used for military purposes from entering the coastal enclave, run by the militant Hamas.

The fire doubled in size Saturday, growing to more than 83,800 acres while putting residents and firefighters in harm's way. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office ordered evacuations for people living in an area of Ukiah north of Highway 175.

In September 2010, Turkey suspended its military ties with Israel and expelled the Israeli envoy from Ankara over Tel Aviv's refusal to apologize for the killing.

Several worldwide flotillas tried to break the blockade but were stopped by the Israeli navy.

Other attempts to run the Israeli blockade included a 2016 women's boat with 13 passengers, including Nobel Peace Prize victor Mairead Maguire of Northern Ireland.

According to media reports, the agreement is supposed to include humanitarian facilities from Israel to improve the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, especially in the economic field, in return for the establishment of the cease-fire agreement for several years.

At least 155 protesters have been killed and hundreds more wounded in the regular protests that began on March 30, demanding Palestinians' right to return to their homeland.

Palestinians, who have Israeli citizenship make up 21 percent of the population, are known as Israeli Arabs and have members in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.

There have been two severe military flare-ups between the two sides in recent weeks as well.
