May stares down Brexit plan backlash as ministers quit

May's proposals for a future European Union relationship after Britain departs from the bloc next March had taken two years of internal government wrangling to agree, but within 48 hours Johnson and Davis had resigned saying they could not back the plans. Her party is divided into hard-and-soft Brexit factions and she has the impossible task of keeping them on the same page.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has resigned over Brexit.

The entire 29-member cabinet, including Brexiteers Boris Johnson and David Davis, secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, agreed to Theresa May's newest plan to prevent a hard border with Ireland and keep the flow of goods and agricultural products undisrupted...until 48 hours later when they didn't.

The aim of the Chequers away day had been to agree the United Kingdom position - after two years of discussion - but the resignations have put a question mark over that.

Fianna Fail's Brexit spokesperson Lisa Chambers said the double resignation was of "grave concern" but urged the British Government to continue with its plan to publish the white paper this week.

Disgruntled Brexiteers need to muster 48 MPs' signatures to secure a vote of no confidence, and 159 Tories' votes to oust Theresa May and trigger a summer-long battle for the leadership, with possible candidates including Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid and maybe Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Still, he laid out his principled rationale as the lead cabinet officer in charge of selling a plan in which he did not believe. Theresa May's song, unfortunately, stuck in his throat.

Following news of the cabinet split, former England worldwide and 1986 World Cup Golden Boot victor Gary Lineker was among the first with a football jargon-laiden jibe comparing Johnson's resignation to a "transfer request".

Is this the end to the cabinet resignations?

At one point, there were even reports that MPs from her Conservative Party had collected enough signatures to force a motion of confidence in her leadership-something that very well could have precipitated Britain's third general election in under 5 years. Brexit-supporting lawmakers were angered by the proposals, saying they would keep Britain tethered to the bloc and unable to change its rules to strike new trade deals around the world.

Saudi Arabia raised oil output by around 500,000 bpd in June
Later speaking to Reuters , the Iranian declared that oil prices will rise to Dollars 100, and it will all be Trump's "fault". Oil extended losses after state-owned Saudi Arabian Oil Co cut most pricing for Asian, European and USA markets.

If Mrs May chose to fight, she would need the support of more than 50% of Conservative MPs - now 159 - in the confidence vote to stay in office.

Britons are uncertain what the likeliest outcome is of Brexit on a day of government chaos.

Johnson spoke for angry Conservative Brexit-backers in his resignation letter to May when he complained that voters weren't going to get the things he'd promised them when he campaigned to leave the EU.

How will this impact Trump's visit?

All we have asked from the Prime Minister, is that she sticks to what she has promised on repeated occasions, when she declared that "Brexit means Brexit" and pledged to take back control of our money, borders and laws.

Asked about Boris Johnson's resignation, Trump added: "Boris Johnson is a friend of mine".

She looks set on facing down a rebellion in her Conservative Party, where hardline Brexit supporters are livid over her plans to negotiate "a free trade area for goods" with the EU.

Hunt said it was a "massive wrench" for him to leave the department, adding: "I know some staff haven't found me the easiest Health Sec".

He said the focus of the Irish government is now on Theresa May's engagement with the European Union.
