The Russian leader said on a visit to South Africa for an economic conference that "appropriate conditions" were required in both countries for another summit to take place, an apparent reference to a political uproar in the United States last week after the two men met.

Putin said Friday, "I understand very well what President Trump said: He has the wish to conduct further meetings".

Putin said Russian Federation has no plans to reject the U.S. dollar. I am ready for that. "I repeat once again, if the right conditions for work are created".

We are ready to invite President Trump to Moscow.

The White House responded with a statement saying "President Trump looks forward to having President Putin to Washington after the first of the year, and he is open to visiting Moscow upon receiving a formal invitation". "He has this invitation already and I told him about it", according to CNN.

Putin said on Friday that he has already invited Trump to Moscow, and that he is "ready to come to Washington" to meet with Trump.

Trump's comments sparked massive bipartisan backlash - which Putin shrugged off.

Putin said that, in the meantime, it was possible that he and Trump would meet on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Argentina in November, or at another worldwide event.

Both leaders have called the Helsinki meeting successful, and Mr Putin rounded on US summit critics earlier this month for wanting to sacrifice the US-Russia relationship over "narrow party interests".

The announcement comes after Putin extended an invitation to the President to visit Russian Federation for another summit.

"To be clear, we support a free press and ask that everyone be respectful of the presidency and guests at the White House", she said. Trump has said he wants to improve ties between the two nuclear powers, whose relations have dipped to a post-Cold War low in recent years.

"One of President Trump's big pluses is that he strives to fulfil the promises he made to voters, to the American people", Putin said.

"In Helsinki, we talked about the issues in which our states have a real stake". "We need to minimise risks, we see what's happening with sanctions".

"It's a subject for debate and negotiations. There are some things you can't do over the phone".
