While Mr Trump said North Korea would see economic penalties relaxed only after he has "completely denuclearised", Kim has advocated a "step-by-step" process.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (July 3) talks with North Korea were making progress despite reports Kim Jong Un's regime had stepped up its nuclear program after the two leaders held a historic summit.

A team of USA officials led by envoy Sung Kim met with North Korean officials Sunday at Panmunjom, the border village between North and South Korea in the demilitarized zone, senior State Department officials told CNN. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters three weeks ago that the USA wants North Korea to take "major" nuclear disarmament steps within the next two years - before the end of Trump's first term in January 2021.

Trump tweets Tuesday that "All of Asia is thrilled" that North Korea has halted missile testing and only the "Opposition Party" Democrats, including the "Fake News" is complaining. She declined to confirm or deny recent media reports of intelligence assessments saying North Korea has been expanding its weapons capabilities.

Satellite images taken nine days after the Singapore summit showed North Korea continuing to build on the infrastructure at a key nuclear reactor.

The talks focused on taking the next step in carrying out the declaration signed by Trump and Kim during the Singapore summit on June 12.

The State Department says a senior US diplomat held talks with North Korea in the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas over the weekend.

Philadelphia 76ers to meet with reps for LeBron James
A good way of thinking about this: If James had chosen to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers , it would be a relatively safe call. In fact, James might not even speak with top team officials before making a decision on his destination for next season.

"We gave nothing", he said.

The State Department's refusal to specify a timeframe could be meant to lower expectations for the outcome of Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang, experts say.

The president's comments in a morning tweet followed a report Saturday in The Washington Post that us intelligence officials have concluded that North Korea does not intend to fully surrender its nuclear arms stockpile and instead is considering ways to hide the number of weapons it has and its secret production facilities.

A senior United States intelligence official also said last week that Pyongyang was continuing to "deceive us on the number of facilities, the number of weapons, the number of missiles". "I'm not going to get into the details, but I can tell you that progress continues to be made", Sanders added, specifically citing a lack of ballistic missile and nuclear tests from North Korea.

According to recently released satellite imagery acquired by the Middlebury Institute for International Studies, North Korea appears to have expanded one of its missile manufacturing plants, the Chemical Material Institute located in the city of Hamhung, between April and June. Asked whether Bolton would join Pompeo for the trip to Pyongyang, she said, "Not to my awareness".

If Kim does visit NY in September, it will be the longest journey he has ever taken as North Korean leader. United States officials have said that North Korea has already identified about 200 sets of remains that could be quickly recovered.
