US Ambassador Plays Down Donald Trump's "Turmoil" Comment

  • JAN. 27 2017 British Prime Minister Theresa May and U.S. President Donald Trump walk along The Colonnade of the West Wing at The White House

A baby-shaped Trump balloon is expected to fly over Parliament on Friday morning. She's planning to attend anti-Trump protests.

On Wednesday, US Ambassador to Britain Woody Johnson talked back Trump's comment that Britain was in "turmoil" because of Brexit-related political upheaval.

Protests are expected against Trump, whose policies - including a travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries, detention of child migrants on the US-Mexico border and imposition of tariffs on European Union steel and aluminium exports - have all been criticised by the UK.

Trump's trip is part of a working visit and not a state visit, an invitation to which was extended to him personally by May just days after his inauguration.

A mass demonstration is planned for Friday, which is expected to draw more than 50,000 people according to a Facebook event.

He arrives about a year and a half after Prime Minister Theresa May invited him for a state visit, an invitation that was met intense opposition in the United Kingdom - nearly 2 million people signed a petition to rescind the invite.

- "Biggest insult" - The centrepiece of the organised opposition will be a march through central London ending in a rally on Trafalgar Square.

It looks a little scary there on the homepage of U.S. Embassy in London: the word ALERT.

Trump told Kavanaugh of pick Sunday
The Casey court did impose some restrictions on abortion rights and Democrats worry that overruling Roe will hurt women. Some conservatives are disappointed with President Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

The US president will touch down at Stansted Airport on Thursday evening.

The embassy also warned Americans, however, to "exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent".

The commander-in-chief is due to meet the Queen at Windsor Castle and Theresa May at her country home in Chequers, before travelling north to Scotland. "It's really kind of irrelevant to what we're trying to do, and doesn't express the opinion of the British people that I've met", he told the BBC's Today programme.

"For a U.S. president who retweets far-right Britain First propaganda, insults Londoners at times of tragedy, and refuses to condemn white supremacist marches at home, this insult is well deserved" said Labour MP David Lammy.

For supporters, Trump and Brexit offer the prospect of breaking free from what they see as obsolete institutions and rules that have weakened the United States and its allies relative to competitors such as China.

But there will still be other anti-Trump events going on around the city, if you want to eyeball the action.

Later, Trump will take tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, a home to the royals for 1,000 years, part of a tour created to keep him away from protesters.
