  • A court filing by her four sons revealed that Aretha Franklin didn’t have a will

She passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 76 after suffering from pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of recordings that remain as anthems defining soul music.

Hundreds of fans gathered Tuesday to honor the late soul icon during her ongoing public viewing at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in Detroit.

Franklin's funeral will take place at the 4,000-seat Greater Grace Temple in Detroit on Friday.

An all-star line-up that includes Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson will perform at Aretha Franklin's funeral this week.

"I got chills", said Pat Turner, 56, of Alexandria, Va., when she saw the auto pull up with the casket inside. Her initial run of classic Atlantic albums - "I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You", "Lady Soul" and "Aretha Now" - produced further glorious and legendary hits and set the stage for some roof-lifting performances in the late '60s and early '70s.

While she was born in Memphis, Tennessee, Franklin is more closely identified with the city of Detroit, where she lived most of her life.

The singer was also aware that to pull off such an event, it would require a well-known artist to draw attendees, and naturally, Paul wanted it to be Franklin.

"God didn't make a better singer. and there isn't a better casket", Swanson said.

She described Franklin as "the very fiber of music in America".

Franklin had strong loyalty to her family and fans to her last days.

Outside the museum, the star's adoring fans waited for their chance to say their goodbyes to Franklin, who is dressed in a red dress and heels with matching crimson lipstick in an open casket.

By the way, Davis is putting together a tribute concert for Aretha, set for November 14 at Madison Square Garden. "She had a sound that no one else had, and that is what got her to where she was".

Franklin's music filled the otherwise quiet room, and dozens of large floral arrangements including powder pink and lavender roses surrounded the hall, final gifts from her closest relatives and friends.
