NY state subpoenas Cohen in Trump Foundation probe

  • Does Anything Change After the Manafort and Cohen Convictions?

Trump's own lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, has dismissed Cohen and Davis' accusations, saying there "is no allegation of any wrongdoing against the President in the government's charges against Mr. Cohen".

"If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don't retain the services of Michael Cohen!" the president wrote.

Investigators in NY state issued a subpoena to Michael Cohen as part of their probe into the Trump Foundation, an official with Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Earlier in the morning, Trump broke his silence on the guilty plea by Cohen, writing his a wisecracking tweet that he would not recommend hiring him as a lawyer.

A spokesman for the agency said that the subpoena was sent "in light of the public disclosures" made Tuesday.

Last week former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok-who was sacked for writing anti-Trump text messages to another agent he was having an affair with-created a page that collected almost $240,000 in one day.

Some Democratic senators have said that if Trump were to pardon Manafort, Cohen or any other former associate the special counsel brings down, that would represent weakness, not power.

Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis, said in a statement that Cohen made the plea so "his family can move on to the next chapter". "He anxious about the future of our country with somebody who was aligning himself with Mr. Putin".

Confronting mounting legal and political threats, Trump took to Twitter to accuse Cohen of making up "stories in order to get a "deal" from federal prosecutors.

The Afghan Taliban's response to cease-fire offer: A mass kidnapping
More than 100 Afghan security forces personnel and up to 250 civilians died, according to early United Nations estimates. Ayubi believes the Taliban were looking for government employees or members of the security forces.

"This would be the first time in American history that we have evidence of a crime of a president in office, with somebody pleading guilty to a crime and saying that he was directed to commit that crime by a president", Davis said.

The White House insisted Trump was not concerned "at all" that Cohen might implicate the United States president by cooperating with Mueller.

Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, said this morning that Cohen has information "that would be of interest" to the special counsel.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of NY was even more vague in his warning to the president, who has shown no aversion to issuing politically charged pardons and claimed last July he had the power to pardon even himself. "They divert attention. They lie some more", he said on CNN.

Among those who have received Trump pardons: controversial former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza and Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney. It was the first trial victory for prosecutors in the office of special counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation Trump has derided as a witch hunt. Earlier this month, Trump acknowledged that the goal of the meeting was to "get information on an opponent" but said the method was "totally legal and done all the time in politics".

Asked if he knew that what he did was illegal, he told the court yes. Davis told the Post. The page, which says it was created by Davis, raised more than $40,000 since it started on Tuesday.

He continued that this information was regarding "knowledge of a conspiracy to corrupt American democracy by the Russians and the failure to report that knowledge to the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

While in West Virginia, Trump offered brief comments on Manafort. "No leaks", Davis said.

As if referencing the enormity of his predicament, Cohen told the judge that the previous night at dinner he had indulged in a Glenlivet 12 on the rocks despite the Scotch not being his usual meal-time tipple.
