"The meteorites from the comet's trail appear to come from the constellation Perseus, which lends the shower its name", Space.com reports. No special equipment is needed, and you can look anywhere in the sky! The ice and dust, accumulating over a thousand years, burn up in our atmosphere to create the meteor shower.

Sky gazers and astronomers recommend watching the meteor show during the darkest hour of the night, far away from cities and other sources of light pollution.

One can expect about 60-100 meteors per hour and Perseids is certainly one of the most spectacular meteor showers you can experience on this planet.

Temperatures can reach as high as 10,000F (5,537F) as meteors - most of which are no bigger than a grain of sand - travel across the sky at speeds of 36 miles a second. The days after the peak will also provide nice, dark skies as well!
