Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Zanu-PF party and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of using underhand tactics to steal the election from them.
Tongai Mnangagwa of Zanu PF was declared victor in Harare South and was closely ahead of former Zanu PF Harare Political Commissar who stood as an MDC Alliance candidate, Shadreck Mashayamombe.
Mangwana stated the ruling party would need to win 30 more seats to have a two-thirds majority that would allow it to change the constitution, adding the party was happy with the results.
Zimbabwe's electoral commission had said it would start announcing results for the presidential race from 10.30 GMT on Wednesday but that was then pushed back at least 24 hours.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has announced 122 seats for Zanu-PF so far, and 53 for MDC Alliance, ZBC state media reported.
In a six threaded Twitter message, Mnangagwa called for an independent investigation into the disturbances that rocked Harare yesterday resulted in the death of more than three people following the deployment of soldiers on the streets.
"It matters little whether this heavy-handed response came on Mnangagwa's orders: evidence that the president lacks the authority to control the security forces will be just as damning in terms of the impact on Zimbabwe's worldwide rehabilitation".
There have been threats of protests and the opposition parties have said they will release their own set of results.
Once again, they had lost the battle for control of parliament and there seemed little chance that Nelson Chamisa - their charismatic party leader - could claim the presidency.

Official results strengthened President Emmerson Mnangagwa's prospects of holding on to power in the key presidential vote, showing that ZANU-PF had easily won the most seats in the parliamentary ballot.
The EU's Chief Observer, Elmar Brok, said he did not yet know if the shortcomings would have a material effect on the outcome of the vote, and he criticised the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for being at times "one-sided".
The ruling party has also released all its V11 forms - critical election results documents - to prove that it had not attempted to rig the polls.
While the electoral commission legally has five days from the end of the election to announce results, Western observer groups urged the release of the presidential results as soon as possible.
