North Korean hackers stole and released confidential information and emails in the hack, and infamously pressured the studio to pull the theatrical release of the satirical movie "The Interview", which depicted the eventual assassination of a North Korean leader.

The pair apologized. Pascal left her job months later.

U.S. authorities say Park Jin Hyok was part of the state-sponsored "Lazarus Group".

Officials state in the complaint that Park was working for a front company named the Korean Expo Joint Venture, which worked on behalf of North Korean intelligence and was charged with generating revenue for the military branch. Prosecutors said the complaint was sealed for a variety of reasons and wasn't done to prevent derailing the Singapore talks.

The complaint also alleges that Park was in China in 2014, but returned to North Korea shortly before the Sony attack.

Another high-profile cyberattack the United States believed to be carried out by North Korea was the illicit transfer of $81m from a Bangladeshi bank in 2016.

A North Korea-registered website bearing that company's name described it as the country's "first internet company", established in 2002.

The US Justice and Treasury Departments said Park Jin Hyok was part of a unit known as the "Lazarus Group" that masterminded the notorious hacks "on behalf of the government of North Korea or the Workers' Party of Korea". It looked in many ways like a typical tech company, boasting of its "pioneering" IT talent and customer satisfaction.

In 2014, U.S. officials charges that unnamed North Korean hackers were responsible for a major cyber intrusion into Sony, which resulted in leaked internal documents and data being destroyed.

Trump Lambasts Jeff Sessions...Again
Sen Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) tweeted that Trump was "looking to use the Department of Justice to settle political scores". Trump wrote on Twitter the Justice Department's decision to file charges will hurt safe Republican seats in the U.S.

North Korea has been linked to some of the most high-profile cyberattacks in recent years, and its hack on Sony Pictures Entertainment lead the Obama administration to impose economic sanctionsagainst the country's government agencies and senior officials.

The sabotage included the WannaCry 2.0 virus, the 2014 Sony Pictures attack and the 2016 cyber-heist of Bangladesh's central bank.

In 2014, for instance, the Obama administration charged five Chinese military hackers with a series of digital break-ins at American companies, and past year, the Justice Department charged Russian hackers with an intrusion at Yahoo Inc.

He was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit computer fraud, and another count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The Treasury announcement said that Park and his co-conspirators operated from "North Korea, China, and elsewhere to perpetrate these malicious activities".

Meanwhile, a North Korean official denied the country was responsible for cyber attacks on Sony in an interview with Voice of America.

"Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims "unwavering faith in President Trump".

Trump thanked Kim on Twitter and said, "We will get it done together!"
