USA captain Jim Furyk had an easy time with three of his four picks.

"I really wanted to play on it", Woods said Tuesday at a news conference where Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau were also added to the USA team.

DeChambeau attended the last Ryder Cup, outside of Minneapolis - as a spectator.

Captain Thomas Bjorn will make four at-large selections Wednesday, and it promises to be a tough decision with the likes of Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Thomas Pieters and Denmark victor Matt Wallace all under consideration.

The 48-year-old has a middling 18-20-7 Ryder Cup record but would still have a good chance in Paris of becoming the most successful American of all-time in the event.

For Woods, it'll be his eighth appearance and first since 2012.

He has not played, however, on a winning team in Europe, where the US has not triumphed since 1993.

The win guaranteed that DeChambeau will be the top player in the playoff standings when the season concludes at the Tour Championship in three weeks in Atlanta, regardless of how he finishes next week at the BMW Championship in suburban Philadelphia.

There had been little suspense surrounding Furyk's announcement.

"Hopefully it will make it. easy for (Furyk) to take me", Mickelson said on Monday after shooting 63 to tie for 12th at the Dell. He is up to four career PGA Tour victories.

In January, when Furyk asked Woods, 42, to be one of his vice captains, Woods was ranked 656th in the world, had not earned a single Ryder Cup point and had not played a PGA tour event in a year.

Former world number one Woods had already been assured of a trip to Paris for the September 28-30 showdown with Europe after being named as one of Furyk's non-playing vice-captains.

DeChambeau is the first man since 2008 to win the opening two FedEx Cup tournaments.

Bryson DeChambeau plays golf differently from everyone else and is getting the results everyone wants. "I get chills just thinking about it". Pieters endured a slow start to the year but hasn't missed a cut since May, picking up three top-tens in his last five starts alone.

"If he goes around and shoots eight-under par every time, that will work", Woods said with a smile. "I've been playing some great golf this whole year".

The three picks join Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson on the team.

Tony Finau is believed to be the leading candidate for 12th and final spot.
