"If France and Germany who fought several wars can live in peace, why can't India and Pakistan", Imran Khan said.

On Wednesday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone to kickstart the construction of the corridor which will connect the final resting place of Guru Nanak, Sikhism's founder, in Kartarpur, Pakistan with the Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur in India's Punjab.

"It should not lead to a breakdown of the relationship between India and Pakistan", Raghavan, who is also the author of the book, "The People Next Door: The Curious History of India-Pakistan Relations, said". The past teaches us that we must move forward.

Sharing her experience about the visit, Ms Badal said, "Politics must be left aside on Kartarpur issue". But here, we move forward and then we move backwards. "We want a civilised relationship", Khan said during his speech at the event.

Senior Indian journalist Jyoti Malhotra on Wednesday lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan's message for peace and slammed the Modi government's "irresponsible" response to the opening of Kartarpur border corridor, ARY News reported. Khan said while addressing the gathering. "Every time we take one step ahead, we slide two steps behind", he said. He said Pakistan is entering a new phase of peace, adding that Naya Pakistan is safe for all people. "It is not an enthusiasm or a laughter challenge from Sidhu", the minister said.

The prime minister said ties between the two countries in the last seventy years require retrospection and read a Punjabi verse of poet Muneer Niazi, saying both the sides have erred in the past.

Khan praised Sidhu for his quick wit and affability and once again called for a resolution of issues between both the neighbouring countries.

Sikh pilgrims coming from other countries can land at Lahore and Sialkot global airports and reach to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib from the old route.
