Apple made a statement to Reuters, stating that the software "updates" will be released to the affected devices in China next week.

"Early next week we will deliver a software update for iPhone users in China addressing the minor functionality of the two patents at issue in the case".

Come Thursday, Qualcomm announced it had filed a new set of lawsuits targeting Apple's 2018 models: the Xs, Xs Max, and the XR. Currently, all the models of the iPhone are available in China.

Qualcomm was able to win the ban by arguing that it would likely win an eventual patent infringement case against Apple.

Qualcomm described the two patents in question as dealing with ways to edit images, including how "to adjust and reformat the size and appearance" of photos, and methods "to manage applications using a touch screen when view, navigating and dismissing applications on their phones".

FAIR: It's do or die for Trump and his border wall
President, if you say Mexico is going to pay for the wall through NAFTA, which it certainly won't, then I guess we don't have to". Both Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrado and his predecessor, Enrique Pena Nieto, have vehemently refused to do so.

That being said, we'll still have to wait for the court ruling at the end of the day. But Apple's response underscores the importance of the Chinese market that generates about a fifth of its revenue, at a time demand for Apple's signature device is slowing.

Earlier this week, Qualcomm asked the Chinese government to ban the sale of some iPhone models in the country.

Qualcomm has paid a 300 million yuan (US$43.54 million) bond to cover potential damages to Apple from a sales ban and Apple is willing to pay a "counter security" of double that to get the ban lifted, the copy of the reconsideration request shows. Qualcomm has even fought back by going after Apple's manufacturing partners for continuing to produce iPhones that are said to be in violation of patents.

Qualcomm and Apple have been locked in legal battles over patent licensing fees for years. "Qualcomm's effort to ban our products is another desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world", Apple originally said.

Apple warned that the ban would hurt Chinese manufacturers like Foxconn and noted that it had created 5 million jobs across the countrys supply chain.
