Syrian state media reported they'd fired on several enemy projectiles, and that Israeli airstrikes had "failed to achieve any of its objectives".

The Syrian government was forced to retract a claim its forces had shot down an Israeli fighter jet in its territory, a short time after Tel Aviv said none of its planes had disappeared.

Syrian state media had earlier cited an unnamed source as saying that the country's air defenses had shot down "enemy targets" over the town, without specifying the nature of the target or its origin.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the remnants of the missile were found in an open field on the Golan heights.

Another missile hit the area of Harfa, near the Israeli border, where there is a Syrian military base, the UK-based monitor said.

The watchdog said the Syrian air defences were firing a number of missiles to intercept the Israeli missiles.

The report said among the areas hit was the countryside of Kisweh, home to military bases, just south of Damascus.

The pair discussed the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month. For the prince, it's about the killing of a dissident Saudi journalist in the country's Istanbul consulate.

The reported strikes come days after an i24NEWS report that two new Syrian military divisions, trained and led by officers of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Al-Quds force, had been mobilized to Syria's borders - including the frontier with Israel.

Israel and the USA have even put pressure on Russian Federation, another close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the war against terrorist groups, to force Iran out of Syria.

Opposition sources say Hezbollah now plays a commanding role in the Quneitra province that neighbors Israel, where it is believed to be training allied militias and hundreds of former rebels.

It is the first Israeli hit since September when it attacked military sites in Syria, causing the Syrian air defences to mistakenly hit a Russian surveillance aircraft.

Moscow pinned responsibility for the downing of its jet on Israel, saying its plane used the larger Russian one for cover, an allegation Israel disputed.

After the September attack, during which Russian servicemen were killed by friendly fire, Moscow was quick to equip Damascus with the S-300 air defence missile system.

Israel has repeatedly targeted military positions in Syria, including Kisweh.
