Sadly, nobody is sad about Urban Meyer and his so-called 'retirement'

  • Why Ryan Day was Ohio State’s choice to succeed Urban Meyer and the challenges that await

Urban Meyer accepted the Florida job in December of 2004.

"I'm fully aware I'm ultimately responsible for this situation", Meyer said in August.

What OU did with Bud Wilkinson replacing Jim Tatum, and Chuck Fairbanks replacing Jim Mackenzie, and Barry Switzer replacing Fairbanks, and Lincoln Riley replacing Bob Stoops, Ohio State did with Ryan Day replacing Meyer.

Urban Meyer accepted the head coaching job at Ohio State on November 28, 2011. You would need to wager $1,200 to win $100 if Meyer doesn't become the coach. He has never lost more than two games in any one season with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State followed that with five straight wins, including a rout of archrival MI that gave the Buckeyes another division title and then pulled away for the easy win over Northwestern.

The announcement came as the Buckeyes begin preparations for the bowl game against Washington and less than three weeks before schools can sign a fresh batch of recruits. Two years later he won his third national title by leading the Buckeyes in the first-ever College Football Playoffs.

Since MKBHD spotted the tweet, Samsung has not only deleted the tweet itself, but also the entire Samsung Nigeria account. Qualcomm plans to unveil more details about the Snapdragon 855 at its Tech Summit conference, which is ongoing this week.

Let's not forget, it was just a couple of days ago when Meyer said he planned on coaching at Ohio State next season.

Former Boston College quarterback Tyler Murphy, who was with Day for a year after transferring from Florida, remembers Day as a more laid-back coach as well, someone who doesn't yell unless he's not seeing effort from his players or is forced to repeat himself multiple times.

Meyer's comfort with the future of the Ohio State program and confidence in Day as his successor played into his decision, according to Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel.

Usually, when one of the greatest coaches of all time announces his retirement ostensibly for health reasons, there are cheers and tears and crying-in-our-beers. Eventual All-Americans Brandon Spikes and Percy Harvin were also in that 2006 Florida recruiting class, and - collectively with Tebow and Johnson - gave Meyer the first five-star signings of his career.

"It didn't take long for me to figure out what the expectations were on Ohio State football. I tried to delegate more and CEO more and the product started to feel.", he said, not finishing his thought. He has not yet said of any plans for after retirement. He previously coached at Bowling Green and Utah. Asked if he would definitely return to Ohio State next year, he answered, "Yes".

Amid the scrutiny on Meyer's program, it also emerged that Zach Smith's treatment of his wife had drawn police scrutiny almost 10 years ago - shortly after Meyer first took him on as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida.
