Sandra Oh, Andy Samberg to co-host Globes

  • Onstage during the 76th Annual Golden Globe nominations announcement in Los Angeles California

Samberg and Oh had a memorable back-and-forth during the Primetime Emmys back in September, recreating the infamous 2017 Oscars flub in which Warren Beatty incorrectly announced that "La La Land" won for Best Picture, when the victor was, in fact, "Moonlight".

The industry's biggest attractions, however, have faced ingrained skepticism from Oscar voters, which explains the "popular film" trial balloon, which many saw as an act of desperation and pandering meant to mollify ABC, the network that televises the awards, after a sizable dip in last year's ratings.

There's no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to the mercurial Hollywood Foreign Press Association and its Golden Globe nominations, but this year saw a number of surprises, like the dominance of Adam McKay's Dick Cheney film "Vice", and a number of truly shocking exclusions.

Even though she's been there and done that with the Globes, she's still positioned to make history if she wins again.

Vegas odds on Clemson-Notre Dame
The Alabama Crimson Tide came back from a 14-point deficit to knock off Georgia Saturday, by a score of 35-28. The line dropped down to Alabama -6 over Clemson on Saturday at the SuperBook. "And we saw that yesterday".

Granted, the results of awards balloting can be largely symbolic, and are seldom the best way to measure progress. While Oh does not appear to have any past award show hosting credits, Samberg has hosted both the Independent Spirit Awards and the Emmys.

The stunner starred as Nakia in the 2018 hit Marvel film Black Panther, which earned over $1.3 billion around the world, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rhode Island native and onetime MA resident Peter Farrelly garnered a Best Director nomination, as well as a Best Screenplay nod, which he shared with co-writers Nick Vallelonga and Peabody native Brian Currie. Vice topped all contenders Thursday with a surprising six nominations, including best picture, comedy, per the AP.

Actor, Musical or Comedy: Sacha Baron Cohen, Who Is America; Jim Carrey Kidding; Michael Douglas, The Kominsky Method; Donald Glover, Atlanta; Bill Hader, Barry.

Several well-regarded movies failed to get any recognition from the HFPA, including Steve McQueen's Widows, Paul Schrader's First Reformed, and Chloe Zhao's The Rider.

"Deadpool" is the only other superhero to break into the best picture categories at the Golden Globes and was nominated for best motion picture, musical or comedy in 2016 with its star Ryan Reynolds also getting a nod. So were Better Call Saul, Black-ish, Maniac, and The Little Drummer Girl. Barbra Streisand won for her 1984 film, Yentl.
