Those areas included the polling data as well as a meeting in Madrid and discussions of a Ukrainian peace plan.
At around the same time, Russian government operatives were allegedly hacking Democratic computers to help Trump and orchestrating a social media propaganda scheme to sway voters against his electoral opponents, CNN said.
According to the unredacted versions posted online, the blacked-out sections showed that Manafort has been accused by Mueller of lying about his sharing of polling data on the 2016 campaign with Kilimnik. Despite the deadline, the public record of Manafort's criminal case in DC District Court has not been updated since mid-December. Prosecutors say Manafort violated their plea agreement by lying, but his defense insists it wasn't intentional and that his mistakes were due to illness, exhaustion and extensive questioning from investigators. Trump has said there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow.
The New York Timesfollowed up with more details of the hand-off, reporting that Manafort instructed Kilimnik to provide the information to Deripaska, a billionaire aluminum magnate with close ties to Vladimir Putin.
According to the filing, prosecutors say Manafort lied to investigators about sharing the data with Kiliminik.

The defense lawyers say Mueller's team has indicated they will not pursue additional charges against Manafort.
Mr Kilimnik was considered Manafort's right-hand man in Ukraine and has been accused by the special counsel of conspiring to obstruct justice.
They also said that Mueller alleges Manafort was in contact with someone who asked him permission to use Manafort's name "as an introduction" in the event that the person met the president.
The revelations come in Manafort's written response to accusations that Manafort lied to Mueller's team during cooperation interviews.
In its filing on Tuesday (local time) the defence was trying to rebut allegations Manafort intentionally lied to Mr Mueller's team after agreeing to plead guilty last September. Manafort was previously thought to be a star cooperator in Mueller's ongoing federal investigation. His legal team offered explanations of human nature as the reasons for his misstatements.
What does the filing say?
Mueller claimed in a November 26 filing that Manafort breached his plea deal and "committed federal crimes by lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the special counsel's office on a variety of subject matters".
Manafort's attorneys did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday about the filing error, though they corrected it in the court's official record.
Manafort has been in jail since June 2018, after prosecutors accused him of attempting to sway witness' testimony against him while he was under house arrest.
Manafort is scheduled to be sentenced on February 8 in Virginia and on March 5 in Washington. In return for his cooperation, he hoped to have prosecutors recommend leniency, possibly slicing years off his prison term. "Mr. Manafort provided complete and truthful information to the best of his ability".
That hearing is now scheduled for later this month. Instead, they claim that Manafort's memory was affected by early morning risings, long days of questioning, and health issues that include gout, depression, and anxiety.
