FBI investigated how Trump's actions seemed to benefit Russian Federation

Lines of inquiry pursued by investigators included whether Mr Trump was knowingly colluding with Russian Federation or unwittingly falling under the influence of the Kremlin.

The Times reports that FBI agents and some top officials became suspicious of Trump's ties to Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential campaign but didn't launch an investigation at that time because they weren't sure how to approach such a sensitive and important probe, according to the sources.

But here's what President Donald Trump could say, roughly, before this week: There was never a whiff of collusion between the Russians and any serious person in my campaign.

The investigation was one part criminal, into possible obstruction of justice, and one part counterintelligence, looking into possible national security concerns, the Times reports.

Over the last 96 hours, we've learned that not only was campaign chairman Paul Manafort sharing polling with a Russian official linked to the country's intelligence service during the course of the 2016 campaign, but also that special counsel Robert Mueller's office spoke with Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio.

The FBI in May 2017 opened an inquiry into whether Donald Trump was working on behalf of Russia, The New York Times reports.

"The fact that it goes back a year and a half and nothing came of it that showed a breach of national security means they found nothing", Giuliani told the paper.

Officials urge vaccination after Illinois girl dies of flu
Flu shots can be given out here at the Mason County Health Department, at many local pharmacies and at doctors' offices. Also, because school is in session, kids are around each other all day and are not afraid to share their germs.

The White House has described The New York Times story as absurd.

The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, called the Times' report "absurd" and said Comey was sacked for being "a disgraced partisan hack". She also disputed that Trump had ever been soft on Russian Federation.

Mr Trump, who has repeatedly and vociferously denied collusion with the Russian Federation, has frequently criticised the Mueller investigation as a "witch hunt".

The FBI did not respond to a query on the alleged investigation against Trump.

Trump and his allies have offered a series of changing explanations for his decision to fire Comey, which has complicated investigators' effort to determine his intent.

For one, also this week, the US attorney for the Southern District here in NY indicted Natalia V. Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who met Manafort, Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner in Trump Tower in June 2016 to discuss acquiring dirt on Hillary Clinton.

CNN reported that counterintelligence agents were investigating why Trump was acting in ways that seemed to benefit Russian Federation.
