Police officers in Lexington, Kentucky, mourned the loss of doughnuts after a Krispy Kreme truck caught fire in a hilarious tweet posted Monday.

WKYT-TV reports no one was injured when the Krispy Kreme driver stopped after noticing smoke in the cab of his truck following a delivery in Morehead.

Given that fact, police posted some "emotional" pictures "mourning" the loss of the truck.

While the fire was soon extinguished, nobody seemed to be more heartbroken than Lexington's boys in blue.

Police forces and sympathisers around the United States were quick to offer condolences to their fellow officers in Lexington.

'Outstanding' - Chelsea fans full of praise for defender in Palace win
Better in the second half, I think, because in the first half we did everything very well but too slowly. After the game, Sarri said, as quoted by Birmingham Live : "The problem is his ankle".

'We feel your loss.

"Seeing their post, the logical reaction was to bring comfort to them in their time of sorrow, and the only kind of comfort we know is with great, delicious doughnuts" he said. We donut know what else to say, ' said the United Kingdom police.

But at least the local police department found some humour in the incident, living up to an age-old stereotype.

"It's a cop thing", the Cincinnati police department tweeted.

'Well played Lexington. Well played, indeed, ' asserted the La Verne Police Department.
