It’s Bike to Work Week, from May 13th through May 17th, 2013 in the United States. And since it’s today May 17th, 2013, the National Bike to Work Day, I thought I would salute everyone who is courageous enough to ride their bike to go to work. So I did a little bit of research and I found the origin of the event.
It all started in 1956 when the League of American Bicyclists decided to start the National Bike Month, later the Bike Week and later on the Bike Day.
It’s a great cause and this is, for every participant, an excellent opportunity to improve their health, bring down pollution and save a little money. It can also help reduce traffic congestion and noise, which is definitely a good thing!
Many activities are organized to encourage people to participate and vary depending on the region. It’s a great occasion to bond with other cyclists, especially if you’re a first timer.
