Sonya’s Story: How Google Maps Helped Rescue A Stray Dog (VIDEO)

Sonya is an adorable dog that was living on the Los Angeles streets for a long long time. So much so that the stray dog had matted fur, a swollen lip and was forced to eat whatever she could find. Patrick Pittenger had noticed her, always on the same spot. He was feeding her and bringing her water when he could. He named the sweet girl, Sonya.

When Patrick showed on Google Maps his place of work to his girlfriend, Jennifer Velesquez, he saw to his big surprise, his friend Sonya lying on the sidewalk. He took this as a sign and decided to contact Hope For Paws, a local animal rescue group known for their amazing rescues in the L.A. area.

Patrick had considered taking Sonya home with him, but his own dog was suffering from health problems. “I would go home and just feel awful there was nothing we could do,” he told The Huffington Post.

So two days later, Eldad Hagar, co-founder of the rescue group, managed to salvage Sonya and he brought her to the local vet and later, to a dog groomer.

The vet found out that she had tumors, ingrown claws, broken teeth, suffered from arthritis and had bone spurs, also called osteophytes, on her spine. Surgical interventions were performed on Sonya. She also has regular acupuncture to help her with her osteophytes and arthritis.

Here is Sonya with her new look in her forever homeLuckily, Patrick’s mother, Joan Pittenger, accepted to adopt Sonya and she now lives happily with Joan and her dog Jack.

As a matter of fact, Sonya seems to adjust very well to her new home. “She’s so attached. She sleeps in my mom’s bedroom doorway now so she can’t leave without her knowing.” Patrick added.

She is a very lovable dog who, even though she has been through an awful ordeal, wasn’t afraid to trust those who were approaching her. She is really a sweet girl who has clearly lots of love to give. I am sure she will be very happy in her forever home.
