The New Vision On Medical Marijuana In Canada (INFOGRAPHIC)

The medicinal properties of marijuana have been the subject of important research and also of heated debates for a considerable number of years. Since April 1, 2014, Health Canada has instated a new federal legislation regarding the market for medical marijuana in Canada.

The Marihuana Medical Purpose Regulations (MMPR) provide patients with the opportunity to have access to medical marijuana when they need it without having to get a permit from Health Canada. Since March 21, 2014, a temporary injunction allows patients to still grow home their own medicinal marijuana, if they were already approved to do so as of September 30, 2013, at least temporarily.

Furthermore, Health Canada is now allowing companies to produce and distribute marijuana to patients who need it all over the country. These companies will be licensed commercial operations with a tight regulation from Health Canada. This means a better, safer and more consistent product which will be following the standard of other medicines.

Currently, patients are using medical marijuana to treat or relieve symptoms related to severe arthritis, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, AIDS/HIV infection, epilepsy, spinal cord disease, cancer as well as muscle pain and fibromyalgia. Some of the patients live with excruciating pain every day and this is the only medicine that eases their suffering.

In the infographic below, created by Visual Capitalist with the collaboration of AgriConsultant, you will find everything you need to know about medical marijuana and the new legislation. Here is a list of what you will discover:

  • What is medical marijuana used for?
  • The science of cannabis
  • Canada’s changing supply chain
  • Focusing on patients
  • How marijuana is administered by patients
  • And more …

The medical marijuana’s benefits are multiple and can improve the quality of life of numerous patients. Even though the medical community is not in complete agreement with prescribing this medication, more and more physicians are approving it. Since the new federal legislation, a medical prescription is required to gain access to the treatment so the largest number of doctors are needed to get on board.

Moreover, this recent legislation can be very confusing and this infographic could help you untangle the facts. With it, you will gain a better understanding of the issue. If you are interested in this matter, it is important that you are well-informed. After all, the well-being of those in need of medical marijuana is what matters most.
