As we begin a new year, everybody is talking about the resolutions they will make. But let’s face it, not many people will stick to what they put on their list and will eventually revert to their previous habits. Actually, New Year’s resolutions are as old as the New Year’s holiday itself which was first celebrated over 4,000 years ago in Babylon. It seems that the ancient Babylonians made promises to their gods at the beginning of the year. They made the promise to pay their debts or return borrowed items.
Over the centuries, different nations continued to carry out the traditions in various ways. Who makes their resolutions and who doesn’t
It’s common knowledge that most people don’t stick to their New Year’s resolutions. We don’t really know why, but not everybody will succeed at seeing their resolutions through. According to the studies by Dr. John Norcross, those who make their resolutions at New Year, as opposed to those who do it at another time of the year, have a much higher success rate by at least 20% after two weeks and more than 45% after six months. Dr. Norcross has also discovered that 41% of the people who participated in the research are making their resolutions for New Year instead of waiting later in the year.
