We have the tendency to humanize our beloved dogs because we think that they are the same as us. So, we think that they can eat the same foods as we do. Even if it’s true that we have a lot in common, we are not the same in every aspect.
We have to stop humanizing our pups
The truth is that some of the foods that are good for us are actually pretty dangerous, even deadly for our furry friends. Certain foods like for example grapes can seem completely harmless, but in fact, they can cause kidney failure in dogs. That’s why it’s crucial to know what they are and what they can cause them.
The world’s most dangerous foods for dogs infographic
The artist Lili Chin decided to create this infographic after she caught her boyfriend trying to feed a grape to their dog. She collaborated with the veterinarian Dr. Jessica Vogelsang and with the firm Design Lab Creative Studio. Here is what they come up with:

A little bit more information
One thing that you won’t find on the infographic is how much of each food is toxic to a dog because it can be different for each dog. Just like humans, each dog’s body reacts differently to the same food. A dog will eat only one grape and die while another one will eat a whole bunch without any problem.
That’s why your veterinarian is the best person to answer any questions or concerns you could have. If your dog ate something toxic, what’s important is to check for the following symptoms:
- Lack of appetite
- Painful abdomen
In case of emergency
If you think that your dog ate something harmful, call your vet immediately. If you can’t reach him, call the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline at 888-426-4435 in the U.S., or you can also call the National Pet Poison Helpline at 800-213-6680 or 855-764-7661 in the U.S. and Canada. You can reach them 24/7.
